The reason for this post is to demonstrate Allah’s creative diversity. What you read into it or to what extent is your intellectual licence. Abundantly infinite is His prowess in everything, so to believe humans ‘know’, in my opinion, constitutes a gross misjudgement. Anyone familiar with the concept of the Seen and the Unseen, or the fact that there are things-about-which-we-do-not-know should surely grasp the concept that just when you thought you knew something, turns out, you actually didn’t. Learning will never cease to occur. Discovery will never cease to happen. It seems that the only thing that ceases, is mankind’s insight. Those who think they know all of what God was thinking, can think again.  I was watching a 2023 Attenborough documentary called The Mating Game. What you see is a creature of the coral reef (Image 1). A blind sea slug type of organism. Its gender neutral. No, not neutral, its actually gender diverse. It has both male and female reproductive parts. The image shows a pair in a sort of handshake embrace – with their stylet appendage – and the two are engaged in fertilisation. Either or both will leave the exchange with some or all of the fertilised eggs. One or both will leave the mating exchange pregnant.

We all know Nemo and how to find him. His specie, the clownfish, live within the anemone. In the hit block-bluster animation they told us that Nemo’s mother died in the shark attack (tragic, may she rest in peace) and his father raised the remaining fish egg. To be honest, that movie was technically factually incorrect. You see, the natural state of affairs, is that anemones and all their inhabitants are under the control of a matriarch. The head fish is female and when she develops the need to breed, she selects a male and together they become the breeding (dominant) pair. For all clownfish are born male, and so now all other clownfish remain subdued in their male-ness. Not masculinity lol, but the male sex.  This queen b and her muscle side-piece then bully the other (male) fish. Like repeatedly snapping at them, pushing them around and generally being a pain in the fin.  Why am I going on and on about this? Well, that level of stress prevents the other male clownfish from secreting hormones that allow them to…become FEMALE! What? That’s right, clownfish are basically naturally trans! So what should have happened to Nemo’s dad, is that he should have become Nemo’s mum, because in the absence of the matriarch, the next male in line is free to then secrete hormones that make it the next matriarch.

When Attenborough says flatworm, I think of an earth worm that got squished. Alas No. That frilly looking flattened fleshy thing (image 2) you see is what he refers to. Beautiful aren’t they. They just hang about the reef, flapping their frills here and there. With brightly coloured skins. This one is called a Persian Rug flatworm so named because its skin resembles an elaborately designed tapestry.

Anyway, this one was swapping (swimming/flapping) around the reef floor until it came across a suitable mate. Sizing up the prize, it gathers itself up on its hind frills and….exposes its modesty! A two-pronged penis (image 3)! But get this, you see the mate (image 4)? Well, its another male. That’s right folks, if its got frills, its probably gay. JOKING! The flatworm also has both male and female reproductive abilities. So what transpires under the sea is a swordfight between the two males. Both of them undergo a duel of piercing undulation. The first one to penetrate the other with its penis, wins the right to impregnate. Anywhere on the body, as long as it penetrates, the fertilisation will commence. Neither of them wants to be burdened with the responsibilities of pregnancy hence the duel. Typical lads!
